Gravestone has year of birth as 1881. Family records give April 2, 1878 as her birthdate.

Bee's given name at birth was Pearl Bethel Mayes.

Her Indian name was Pe-ahm-e-squeet which means 'Floating Cloud'. Daughter of Mary Agnes Gulick and Ebenezer Chadwick Mayes. Her mother was of Indian descent of the Ojibway tribe of Michigan. She married Thomas M. "Tom" Henneberry on Oct 01, 1913 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. (She later shortened her married name to 'Barry'.) She met him while she was touring in New York area & New England states. She performed in theaters telling of the life, legends, songs, dances and ceremonies of her ancestor's tribe. She also had the opportunity to perform with the New York Symphonic Orchestra on her tour. Her marriage did not last long, she was living with her father on the 1920 census and divorced. Bee did not have any children.

***********************************

'Bee' worked on the Oklahoma Music Project efforts in folksong collection, transcription, classification and recording soon after its creation in early 1936. Bee M. Barry (Pe-ahm-e-squeet), of Chippewa ancestry, a graduate of Haskell Institute, and previously employed as instructor of Indian culture at the University of Oklahoma, was charged with recording the music of several of the Oklahoma Native American peoples. A portable recording machine was purchased and adapted to make it suitable for procuring recordings on the reservations and in the Oklahoma hills where such technology was not available. As a result of these efforts, the music of the Cheyenne, Kiowa, Sac and Fox, Apache, Pawnee, Ottawa, and Osage tribes were preserved for posterity to have a permanent record of their music.
