Came to California around Cape Horn with her parents, Peter and Caroline Mayer, in 1854. Lived in Columbia,Tuolumne,CA and married Henri Becker on July 3, 1856 in Sonora, CA.He was thirty-eight years old and she was sixteen. The couple moved to Bower Cave (aka Marble Springs Cavern), Mariposa, CA about 1859 and owned it by 1860. They had three daughters, Caroline, Hannah, and Helene. On January 30, 1863 Mr. Becker was shot and mortally wounded by Marie after an attempt by him to do her bodily harm. He died on Feb 4, 1863 at Bower Cave, CA. A coroner's jury found the homicide justifiable. On October 5, 1863 she married Louis Toussaint Pechart at Groveland,CA. Living at Bower Cave, they had ten children.They were divorced in 1893. He died in 1898. She lived with daughters Leonie Pechart McGinnis of San Francisco and Lucy Pechart Beckwith of Oakland until her death.
