VERMILION -- Dorothy Frances Burke (nee Mayer), 85, of Vermilion, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Kingston of Vermilion, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Vermilion, and she was a lifelong Vermilion resident.
She was employed as a school bus driver for Vermilion City Schools in the 1960s, a cook at Roman Villa, Lorain, a cafeteria cook at the Lorain Ford Plant, and also at Klingshirn Builders as a domestic worker.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, the Vermilion VFW Auxiliary Post 7576, and AARP, Vermilion. She enjoyed cards, bingo, gardening and crocheting. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
Survivors include her daughters Judy Baker of Lorain and Krystal Scott of Thorn Hill, Tenn.; sons William L. Burke of Elyria and Harold Burke of Lorain; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; sister Mary Beursken of Vermilion; and brothers Peter Mayer of Wakeman, Frank Mayer of Vermilion and Andrew Mayer of Vermilion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna (nee Roth) Mayer; husband Max W. Burke; brothers John William, Nicholas, and Arthur Mayer; and sisters Annie Bringman, Josephine Beursken and Elizabeth Marks.
Friends may call Monday from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion. FATHER David A. Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
