Clara L. Ponsler, 90, Rushville, Ind., died at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 1990, in the Methodist hospital, Indianapolis.

She was born Jan. 21, 1900, in Decatur County, the daughter of William and Amanda Hill Swegman. She was a charter member of the Rushville, Ind., Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Rushville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She worked in the kitchen and the bakery of the former Durbin Hotel, Rushville, Ind., until that establishment closed.

She was married to Elmer Z. May Nov. 5, 1928, and he preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1959. On Oct. 26, 1962, she married Orville J. Ponsler, and he preceded her in death April 13, 1970.

She is survived by one son, Donald W. (Jug) May, R.R.1, Rushville, Ind.; four daughters, Martha Coffin, R.R.2, Daleville, Ind., Betty Irwin, Greenwood, Ind., Dorothy Linville, R.R.5, Rushville, Ind., and Margaret Taylor, Tennessee; four stepsons, Wilbur Ponsler, Oregon, Paul and Lee Ponsler, both of Rushville, Ind., and Richard Ponsler, Morristown, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Catherine Consolino, Rushville, Ind.; one brother, Bernard Swegman, Muncie, Ind.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, one grandson and four brothers.

The Rev. Robert Malone and the Rev. Kenneth Bates will conduct services at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Moster and Cox Mortuary, Rushville, Ind.

Burial will be in the East Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Mortuary from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
