Born May 3, 1916 in Atlantic City, NJ, she was the only child of the late William and Nancy (Casteel) Maxwell. Her husband, Howard W. Barrett, whom she married in 1935, died on Sept. 28, 1994.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth M. Barrett of Chambersburg, a granddaughter, Constance Ammerman of York, a grandson, Gregory Barrett of Lewistown and two great-grandchildren.
Prior to moving to Pennsylvania in 1985, she lived in Absecon and Pleasantville, NJ. She was a piano teacher during her entire life, retiring before moving from New Jersey. She enjoyed playing the piano up until the time of her death. She concentrated upon playing church music, often playing piano-organ duets with her husband, who was a church organist for over 64 years before he died. She taught a children's Sunday school class and was an active member of the church choir in Wesley Methodist Church in Pleasantville, NJ for many years.
In Pennsylvania, she was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown, a member of the Ever Ready Sunday School Class, and sewed with the Needlers..
Her funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Darvin Donahey officiating. Burial was in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Licking Creek Valley. Friends called from 1:30 pm until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
