HONAKER, Va. David Bee Maxfield, 74, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.

Born in Russell County, Va., on July 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Della B. Gamble Maxfield. He was of the Baptist faith.

He served his country in the U.S. Army, was a retiree of the Clinchfield Coal Co. and was a member of the UMWA. He was an avid outdoorsman and farmer.

In addition to his parents, an infant daughter, Linda Joyce Maxfield, and two sisters, Bennie Statzer and Kitty Poskas, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, David Wade Maxfield of Lebanon; daughter, Regina Rose and husband Jim of Honaker; granddaughter, Samantha Whited, husband Branson and great-granddaughter, Graceson Whited, all of Swords Creek, Va.; stepgrandson, Travis Cody Rose of Clintwood, Va.; ex-wife, Bonnie Maxfield of Honaker; brothers, John D. Maxfield and wife Rosemary of Rosedale, Va., and Donald W. Maxfield and wife Nina of Honaker; sister, Jo Ella Honaker of Honaker; and brother-in-law, George Poskas of Weavers Creek, Va. He also leaves behind his loving companions, Spider and Spot, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Joe Harrison, Larry Coleman, Jeff Duty, Dan Statzer, Tiger Maxfield, Randall Honaker, Danny Price and Branson Whited. Honorary pallbearers will be Bradley Amos, Bill Owens, John Combs, Carlos Maxfield, Roger "Doc" Gamble, George Poskas and Larry Ray.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Owens Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Musick and the Rev. Cecil Musick officiating.

Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, with military graveside rites conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post 9864. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Owens Funeral Service, Lebanon, is in charge of arrangements.
