Janet Louise Mauzy, 95, a life-long resident of the Rushville community, passed away at 3:09 AM Monday, September 26, 2011 at Millers Merry Manor.
Janet was born July 14, 1916 in Rushville, IN to Hugh and Anna (Ross) Mauzy, both deceased.
She was a Rushville High School graduate in the Class of 1934 and received an Associate of Arts degree (from Stephens College) in music with pipe organ as the major instrument. While at Stephens College, she received the Ruth Brieman award of Organ performance and was chosen as representative of Reverence toward the Spiritual. After receiving a certificate at Northwestern Institute of Medical Technology in 1941, she served as a medical assistant with Dr. Roy Shanks from 1941-1952 and with Dr. Davis Ellis from 1952-1981, retiring in July 1981.
She was a lifelong member of the Main Street Christian Church where she shared organist service from 1937-1952 with Mary Dean and Doris Dishinger. She continued as organist until 1991. She had further studies in organ from Dr. Mallory Bransford, Dean of Music at Butler University in 1960-1962. She was a member of the Rushville Music Study Club, the Monday Circle, the Rush County Historical Society, the C.W.F. of the church, a member of the Tri Kappa Associate chapter and the Rush County Humane Society.
Janet leaves behind a nephew, William Hunter Robbins, III (and wife, Sally) of Greensburg, a niece, Mrs. John (Janet Jo) Robbins Bubb of Houston, Texas, nine nieces and nephews and several great- great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Robbins in August 2003 and a brother-in-law, William Hunter Robbins, Jr. in 2004.
The memorial service will be held at the Main Street Christian Church at 3 PM Sunday, October 2 where friends are welcome to visit after 2 PM. Rev. Sam Davenport will preside.
Burial will be in Rushville's East Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Organ Fund at the church, the Rush County Community Foundation, or the Rush County Humane Society.
It was a pleasure to have known such a precious lady. She will be greatly missed. Love you Janet.
