Frances Mauzy Fortenbery
Providence - Frances Mauzy Fortenbery, 92, Providence, died Tuesday, June 11, 2000. at Ridgewood Nursing Home in Madisonville after a long illness.
She was a former teacher whose career spanned 47 years in elementary schools in Webster and Union Counties.
She was a graduate of the university of Kentucky,where she majored in French and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. In the early 1950's. she operated a summer kindergarten in Morganfield, and she taught evening classes to soldiers stationed at Camp Breckinridge during the Korean War.
She was a life-long Presbyterian and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Madisonville.
She was proceded in death by her husband Thomas V. "Red," who died in 1948.
Survivors include one son, Tom Fortenbery of Providence; one sister, Mary Wilkey of Providence; two grandchildren; one grea-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home in Providence. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dixon.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home.
