BRAINERD--Funeral services were held today at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Duelm, for Mildred Herbst, 99, formerly of the Duelm area, who passed away Tuesday, September 6, 1988, at Woodland Acres Health Care Center.

The Rev. Robert Harren officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Arrangements were by the Foley Funeral Home.

Mildred Herbst was born January 7, 1889, in Evansville, Ind., to Edward and Ella (Soechtig) Mauntel. She married Adolph Herbst June 22, 1910, in Duelm and the couple farmed in St. George Township, Benton County, many years before moving to Princeton in 1940 where they owned and operated a café. She moved to Denver Colo., in 1971 and to Detroit Lakes in 1983. She was a member of the Moorhead VFW Auxiliary, Princeton American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.

Survivors include daughter and sons, Mrs. Aletha Kapsner, Denver Colo.; Eugene, Hemet, Calif.; Basil, Brainerd; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, May 15, 1957; sons, Fredrich, Emmett, Lorenz and Alan; and two sisters.
