Family and friends will celebrate the life of Ola D Mauldin Birchitt on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Throckmorton Church of Christ in Throckmorton, Texas. Gary Montgomery of Baird will officiate and burial will follow in the Throckmorton Cemetery. Ola D passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at the age of 94.

Formerly of Midland, Texas, she was born on March 25, 1915, in the community of Shields, Coleman County, Texas, to the late Walter Gabriel and Alma Arrant Mauldin.

She married Clarence H. Birchitt in May, 1942, in Austin, Texas. They lived in Galveston, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and Beaumont before settling in Midland in 1957.

Ola D worked as a medical receptionist for Dr. R. Preston Shaw and later Dr. James E. Huddleston, Jr. until her retirement in May, 1984. After retirement she tirelessly spent years in caring for numerous family members and friends.

She was a charter member of the Midland Genealogy Society. She was also dedicated to her church, Westside Church of Christ in Midland where she was a long time member. Baker Heights Church of Christ was her church home when she frequently visited family here. She moved to Abilene in 2003 and lived at Southern Meadows Assisted Living Home.

Ola D was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, who died in 1973, twin brother Oran B Mauldin (Evelyn), brother Clyde Mauldin (Fran), sisters Lexie Watson (Truman), Grace Kiser (Pete), and Wilma Carter (Thurston).

Those left to cherish her memories are a brother Roy W Mauldin and his wife Shirley of Abilene, and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Southern Meadows Assisted Living Home, 2234 Robertson, Abilene, TX 79605; Westside Church of Christ, 4410 W. Illinois, Midland, TX 79703; or Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605. The family would like to thank Dr. Laura Barber and Southern Meadows caregivers for the excellent care Ola D received over the last six years.

Family visitation will be held in Abilene on Monday night, May 4th, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory from 6 to 8 pm.
