Registered for the World War I draft at Balltown, Breckinridge County and gave his date of birth as shown; said he was born and lived in Mattingly, Kentucky; and was employed as a farmer on a Mattingly farm. He was single, of medium height and built with grey eyes and dark hair.

Alfred R. (Alf) Mattingly, 85, of Hardinsburg, died Tuesday afternoon, April 12, at Veterans Hospital, Louisville. He was the son of the late Frank and Jennie Ruppert Mattingly. Mr. Mattingly was a coal miner in Eastern Kentucky for several years, returning to his native Breckinridge County to farm and later retired. He was married to the former Emma Henning who preceded him in death several years ago. Survivors include a son, Jack Mattingly of Lexington; four sisters, Mrs. Mary O. Payne, Rt. 3, Hardinsburg, Mrs. Roy Wharton, Pompano Beach, Fla., and Leona Pfeiffer and Mrs. John O. Firzer, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a brother, Ernest Mattingly, also of St. Petersburg, Fla. Friends may call at the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg after 1 P.M. Thursday. Tentative plans for the funeral Mass and burial are Friday morning at St. Romuald Church in Hardinsburg.
