CLOVERPORT - John E. Mattingly, 77, of Cloverport, died Monday, Nov. 28, 1988, at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. He was born in Battletown, was a retired civilian technician with the U.S. Army, was a member of English Baptist Church and Owensboro Masonic Lodge No. 130 F&AM, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harold Franklin (Anna) Shireman of Bradenton, Fla.; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Roy Mattingly of Lewisport; and three sisters, Mrs. Oliver (Ida) Pate of Owensboro, Mrs. Mattie Hanks of Stephensport and Mrs. Grace Morgan of Brandenburg. Services are at 2 P.M. Saturday at Dhonau-Wallace Funeral Home, Cloverport. Burial with Masonic grave side services in Cloverport Cemetery. Visitation after 4 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

John E. Mattingly, 77, of Cloverport, died Monday, November 28, at the Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. He was born February 20, 1911, at Battletown, a son of the late Steve and Sallie Pipes Mattingly. Mr. Mattingly was a retired civilian technician for the U.S. Army, a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army, a member of the English Baptist Church, and the Owensboro Masonic Lodge No. 130 F&AM. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Anna Franklin Shireman of Ft. Myers, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Oliver Pate of Owensboro, Mrs. Mattie Hanks of Stephensport, and Mrs. Grace Morgan of Brandenburg; two brothers, Hewitt W. Mattingly of West Columbia, S.C. and Roy Mattingly of Lewisport; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral was held Saturday, December 3, at Dhonau-Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport with the Rev. Tom Wolverton of the English Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the Cloverport Cemetery with Owensboro Masonic Lodge conducting grave side rites.

His first wide and mother of his child was Nellie Woodman.
