Daughter of Harold Arch and Dolly Agnes Manners Matthews. Marilyn grew up in North Platte, graduating from North Platte High School in 1959. On November 8, 1958 she married Harold Ray Ellis in Scottsbluff, NE. The couple resided in various spots in Nebraska, settling in North Platte when Harold was hired on the Union Pacific Railroad. Marilyn worked at the Pawnee Hotel and Great Plains Regional Medical Center . She also helped Harold with accounting on their painting business. She was an avid reader, collected many dolls, had many talents which included making wedding cakes and was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed Braves Baseball and attending her grandchildren's activities. Marilyn was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The greatest joys of her life have been the birth of her children and grandchildren and watching them grow.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela (Mike) Smith, Carrie Easton all of North Platte and Dolly (Jack) Casto, of Winnebago, Minn.; son-in-law, Dale Easton of North Plate; daughter-in-law, Kathy Valla of North Platte two brothers, Charles (Arliss) Matthews of North Platte and Gary "Butch" (Joni) Matthews of Whiteoak, TX; brother-in-law, Ted (Marlene) Bennett of Oklahoma; 14 grandchildren, Rachel (Pete) Torrez, Rebekah (Travis) Smith and Renae (Troy) Brandt all of North Platte, Adam Smith of New Orleans, LA, Kaitlin Smith of Lincoln, NE, Jordan Smith of Omaha, NE, Shane Smith of North Platte, Callie (Keith) Anderson of Dixon, NE, Bryce Easton, Ariel Easton and Ryan Ellis all of North Platte, Amanda (Nathaniel) Mustion of Lincoln, NE, Hunter Ellis of Mankato, Minn. and Dalton Casto of Winnebago, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Jodecci, Brikelle, Jacob, Sabrina, Mathea, Malakhi and Azlyn-Briel Torrez, Miranda, Makenna and Kaymbree Smith, Kirstin, Cade and Kaelyn Brandt, Aden and Atlee Anderson, Brently Easton and Eric Vlasin; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Ellis; her parents, Harold and Dolly Matthews; two sons, Harold "Skeet" Ellis Jr. and Randall Ellis; a sister, Shirley Matthews; brother-in-law, Gene Ellis; grandchildren, Jared Smith, Jacob and Jamie Easton; and four great-grandchildren, Shaston Easton, Atley, Devin and Taylor Torrez.
