Frank L. Matson, age 65, of Cottonwood Falls, KS, died suddenly Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, KS. The son of Warren F. and Agnes L. Houk Matson, Frankie Lee was born February 9, 1949, in Emporia, KS. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley, CA. He served in the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War, as a helicopter mechanic and as a door gunner. He worked as a tool and die maker for Boeing. After he moved to Chase County, he attended the Bazaar United Methodist Church and the Cottonwood Falls United Methodist Church and was active at the Chase County Senior Center where he shared his large collection of music. He was a "handy man" and spent much time making improvements to his home.
He is survived by his mother; a brother, John Matson, of Desert Hot Springs, CA.; a sister, Linda Fowler, of Raleigh, NC; a cousin, Larry Matson and his wife, Chris, of Emporia, KS and their children, John Michal Matson and Mary Matson Hunter; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, February 20, at 11:00 AM, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls with Pastor Kim Shank officiating. Military honors will be presented by a Fort Riley Honor Guard. He has been cremated. Memorial contributions to the Chase County Senior Center may be sent in care of the funeral home, 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
