PORT LAVACA - Raymon Harold Matson died Jan. 20, 2010. He was born Jan. 15, 1915 in Atascosa County to Anton Charlie and Olga Adelaide (Ollie Marie) Lehmann Matson. He was a Methodist.
Raymon was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He studied animal nutrition on his own and mixed feed for a ranch full of cows of the best quality. Several school youths who fed his feed to their show calves won ribbons for these animals. A&M college took note of his accomplishments with animal feed and insisted that he bag and tag his feed in such a manner as to cause the price to be too high. He formed a plan to overcome this and continued to mix feed.
Raymon is survived by his wife of 72 years, Bernice Neill Matson; his son, Charles Raymon Matson Sr. of Port Lavaca; his daughter, Judy Anderson of Edna; his grandchildren, Lynette Darst of Telferner, Charles Matson Jr. of Port Lavaca, Richard Freychineaud of Louisiana, and Alan Anderson; his brother, N. Bobby Matson of Port Lavaca; his sister, Jeanette Froelich of Victoria; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Matson was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Matson, and two sisters, Dorothy Williams and Irene Matson.
