Dorothy M. Abbey

Mrs. Abbey, 94, of Charlotte, NC, died December 2, 2014. She was born on August 4, 1920, in Saginaw, MI. Daughter of the late John and Katherine Weil Mathis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Donald Abbey, and her brothers, Alvin and John Jr. Mathis.

Mrs. Abbey was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, MI, a stenographer in a Saginaw law office, and an assistant to the Dean of Students and President of Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, MI. She assisted her husband in the Christian Endeavor Movement as well as the churches he pastored, and in their marriage and family counseling service.

She was an amazing pianist, hearing a song once then playing all the chords by ear, and beloved wife and mother to her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Rearick (Robert) of Manning, SC and Donna Glass (David) of Charlotte, NC, and grandchildren, Dawn and Daniel Glass (sister and brother) both of Colorado Springs, CO.

Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at the McEwen-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC, with the Reverend James Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ministry of Mrs. Abbey's family: Life Unwrapped, in care of Dawn Glass, P.O. Box 64584, Colorado Springs, CO 80962.
