"Monroe Mathis, age 78 years, died yesterday afternoon at 6:40 at his home, 2905 Stevens avenue, after an illness of over two years. His last sick spell had been of six weeks duration during which he failed rapidly until his death. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. Fred Shaw. The funeral will be in charge of the Masonic lodge of which Mr. Mathis was a member.
Mr. Mathis was born in Taylorsville, Ky. and came to Labette county in 1871, locating on a farm six miles west of Parsons, where he lived until about eight years ago when he moved to Parsons to make his home.
He is survived by his wife, and seven children, sons, Theodore and Henry of Parsons, Harvey and Will, residing on farms near Parsons, Rev. Charles Mathis of Coffeyville, and Leslie of Coffeyville and one daughter, Mrs. Charles W. Moore of this city. The burial will be in Oakwood cemetery."
