"Jack E. Mathis, a retired Methodist minister, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1991, at his home in Leavenworth. He was 62.
He was born July 9, 1929, in Parsons, the son of Lloyd E. and Cecil C. Wellborn Mathis.
He was a 1951 graduate of York College, In York, Ohio, and a 1953 graduate of the Dayton Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He was a United Methodist Church minister and retired in 1974. He was the owner and operator of CCC Manufacturing in Leavenworth.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Joyful Noise Quartet, the Sekanaires Quartet, and the Cody Choraliers, all in Leavenworth.
He made several recordings, one of which was requested by the governor for the Kansas Centennial. He was also a avid bowler.
Survivors include a son, Jerry B. Mathis, Olathe; three daughters, Melody Berry, LaCygne, Kan., Corrine Corkin, Glendale, Calif., and Crystal Madden, Kansas City, MO; a brother, Jerry Mathis, Hollidaysburg, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.
Services wil begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Leavenworth, with the Rev. William T. Nowlan officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Christian Church. The Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements."
