Charles W. Mathewson, 74, of Galion, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his home after a short illness. Charles was born in Port Huron, MI on December 25, 1939 to the late Joseph P. and Margaret L. (Edwards) Mathewson. He married Barbara J. Glenn on June, 25, 1960 and she survives him. High school sweethearts, Barb and Chuck knew each other for 58 years. Chuck was a graduate of Marysville High School, Class of 1958, Marysville, MI. In high school, he was on the Football All State All Stars for Michigan. He could drop kick a football. Chuck graduated from Midwestern Baptist College, Pontiac, MI in 1973. Chuck preached the Word of the Lord and taught in Christian schools serving as both teacher and as a principal. In his life he taught in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Illinois and Virginia. The most important things in his life were serving the Lord, and his family, especially his wife. He is survived by his three sons and a daughter: John & Bonnie Mathewson, Gary, IN; Sara Offenbacker, Wenonah, NJ; Paul & Marilyn Mathewson, Shelby; James & Suzanne Mathewson, Seneca Falls, NY; fourteen grandchildren: Amanda Mathewson, Amy Mathewson, John & Joanne Mathewson, Megan Mathewson, Ashley & Rich Barclay, Daniel Offenbacker, Alicia Offenbacker, Michael Offenbacker, Charles & Lindsey Mathewson, Paul E. Mathewson, Jr., Sarah Mathewson, Hannah Mathewson, Melody Mathewson, Rachel Mathewson; 1 & ¾ great grandchildren: Lily Mathewson and in 7 weeks Calvin Mathewson is due; and his sister Sienna & Bob Sowatsky, Port Ludlow, WA.
