She was a past board member of the American Horticul tural Society; chairman of the Friends of River Farm; two-term president of the Garden Club of Alexandria; director of the Garden Club of America; founding member of the Perennial Garden Club of Washington, D.C.; and a member of the Garden Club of Gloucester of Gloucester, VA. She was president of the Kenmore Association; chairman of the Board of Regents in 1977-8; member of the Alexandria Committee for Stratford Hall and of the Accokeek Foundation; National Society of the Colonial Dames of America; and two terms as regent of the Mount Vernon Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
