VEGA – Cal Mathes, 86, died Tuesday. News

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Vega United Methodist Church with Dr. Jordan Grooms, a Methodist minister and the Rev. James N. Hamilton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors.

Mr. Mathes, born in Pratt, Kan., moved to Vega in 1926 from Wichita Kansas. He was a heavy equipment operator for Oldham County for 30 years and farmed in Oldham County from 1926 to 1942. He was married to Iva Dunning in 1926 at Alva, Okla. He was a member of Vega United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Verda Price of Amarillo; a son, Ed Mathes of Amarillo; three sisters, Edith Zanders and Edna Schofield, both of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Eva Bair of Marysville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
