Merle Romaine Baker, age 88, of Lake Station, IN, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007. She was married to Denver L. Baker who was Pastor of the East Gary Assembly of God Church from 1948-1977. As a Pastor's wife, she worked in the church as a Sunday School teacher and musician who played piano and organ and even wrote music. Mrs. Baker is survived by three daughters: Sharon Hamlin of Merrillville, IN, Marleeta (Ed) Power of Hobart, IN and Trina McCrary of Mobile, AL; two brothers: Rev. Gordon (Florence) Matheny of Plant City, FL and Harry (Winnie) Matheny of Centerville, OH; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver L. Baker in March 2005. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Kraft Funeral Services, 370 N. County Line Road, Hobart, IN with Rev. Gordon Matheny officiating. Interment will follow at McCool Cemetery. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Services.
