Maroney, Clara Belle
Clara Belle Maroney August 21, 1923 - April 7, 2008 Clara Belle Maroney, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 7, 2008. A celebration of Clara's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary Chapel, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, in Bakersfield, CA. Clara was born August 21, 1923 in Breckenridge, TX to William and Elsie Masters. She attended elementary school in Ardmore, OK and attended junior high and high school in Gainesville, TX, graduating from high school in 1941. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young girl and served Him throughout her life. She worked as a secretary at Minter Field in Shafter, CA during World War II. After her marriage and the birth of her daughter, Patricia, she worked in the real estate office of Ralph Smith in Bakersfield, CA. She married the love of her life, James Maroney in 1950 in Las Vegas, NV. Following the birth of her daughter, Susan, she worked at Paramount Savings and Loan in Bakersfield, CA. While living in Bakersfield, Clara was actively involved at First Baptist Church, Mercy Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary, Kern County Fire Department Auxiliary, and met monthly with several close friends for the "Luncheon Club." Following James' retirement from the Kern County Fire Department, Clara and James moved to Shell Beach, CA where she served God at Grace Bible Church in Arroyo Grande, CA. During her retirement years, Clara's gifts of love and hospitality were shared with all as she created a beautiful home for her family to enjoy many wonderful holiday gatherings together and frequent trips "to the beach." Many lasting friendships were formed through camping and motorhome trips to Lake Havasu and weekend retreats at Hume Lake Christian Camp. Clara is survived by daughter, Patricia Roberts and husband, Jerry of Murrieta, CA; daughter, Susan Baldwin and husban, Rod of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Brandon Roberts and wife, Bretta of Surprise, AZ; Kelly Laurenzi and husband, John of Thousand Oaks, CA; Adriane Knaack and husband, Tony of Murrieta, CA; Jerod Moore and wife, Darla of Bakersfield, CA; Emily Payne and husband, Alif of Bakersfield, CA; and Megan Mills and husband, Jason of Fresno, CA; 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, William Masters and wife, Jean of Raytown, MO; nieces, Dana Dwyer and husband, Jerry of Raytown, MO; Nancy Brewton and husband, Michael of Henderson, NV; and nephew, William Masters and wife, Rhonda of Lee's Summit, MO. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, James Maroney, her mother, Elsie Masters, and grandson, Brennan Roberts. Clara has left a legacy of love for Jesus, her family and her many friends. "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13. We love you, Mother.
