Husband of Etta Riley (Rushton) Masten.
His obituary from the June 28, 1978 Brownsburg Guide:
Earl Masten, 85, RR1, Clayton, died Wednesday, June 21, in Tendercare Nursing Home at Danville. Born at Amo on October 10, 1892, the son of Cyrus and Laura (Hadley) Masten, he lived his lifetime in this community and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Belleville United Methodist Church and a 25-year member of the Belleville Masonic Lodge, which conducted memorial services at Weaver Funeral Home, Clayton, Thursday night, June 22. Services were at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 23, in the funeral home with Reverend Paul Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Center Valley Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Etta (Rushton) Masten; son, Lowell Masten, Bethel, Connecticut; two grandchildren, Craig Masten and Carol Milne-Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Amy.
Mr. and Mrs. Masten were friends of my parents. Mom put flowers on their grave for years because Lowell lived out of state and could not get here as often as he liked. He always sent Mom a Christmas card every year thanking her for caring for his parents. He always sent her money, too, but Mom would have done it anyway as she sincerely loved Mrs. Masten. One year, the card did not come, so we assumed Lowell passed away. Mom continued with the flowers anyway. I have placed flowers on their grave since Mom died and will continue to do so.
