Lydia Massey Berryhill, formerly of Woodville, Mississippi, died Friday, September 25, 2009, in Jackson, Mississippi at St. Dominic – Jackson Memorial Hospital.

For the past four years, Mrs. Berryhill had been living in Ridgeland, Mississippi at Ridgeland Pointe Assisted Living.

Mrs. Berryhill, was born in Woodville, Mississippi on September 7, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. James Allen Massey (Edna Brannan).

She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi in 1942 with a degree in Home Economics. Mrs. Berryhill taught school in Port Gibson, Mississippi before marrying Harry Emerson Berryhill on July 8, 1944.

A life – long resident of Woodville, Mississippi, she was a member of the Junior Irwin Russell Club and organist for the Woodville Christian Church for more than 40 years. She also worked with her husband, Emerson Berryhill, in the management of Berryhill Funeral Home, and as a social worker in the Mississippi State Welfare System.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Emerson Berryhill.

Mrs. Berryhill's survivors include two daughters, Lydia Berryhill Bolen (Randolph Patrick) of Jackson, Mississippi and Edna Brannan Berryhill of Memphis, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Amanda Bolen Brown of Little Rock, Arkansas, Katherine Bolen Winstead of Brentwood, Tennessee and Randolph Patrick Bolen, Junior of Jackson, Mississippi; four great-grandchildren, Madeline Grace Brown, John David Brown and Lydia Elaine Brown of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Braden Patrick Winstead of Brentwood, Tennessee. Mrs. Berryhill is also survived by her sister, Mary Lou Boyles, in Oxford, Mississippi; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodville Baptist Church in Woodville, Mississippi, and visitation will be at the church from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. that day. Burial will be at Evergreen Annex Cemetery in Woodville. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Woodville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1256, Woodville, Mississippi 39669 or to the American Lung Association.
