Steve L. Massengill, age 71, a resident of Clinton, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Massengill was born on the 29th day of April, 1942 in Caryville, TN. Before moving back to Tennessee in 2004, he and his family lived in Danville, VA for 20 years.
Steve was very patriotic and he served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam war. He was a faithful Christian and a member of the Kellytown Baptist Church.
He retired in 2004, from Shoney's, Inc., following several years of service. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Additionally, he enjoyed woodworking, lawn work, gardening and UT football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lum and Florence Duncan Massengill, and by a brother, David Massengill.
Steve is survived by his wife of 49 years, Myra Read Massengill of Clinton, by a son, Stephen Scott Massengill of Knoxville, by daughters; April Boswell and husband, C.J. of Oliver Springs and Deana Crider and husband, Jay, of Danville, VA, by grandchildren; Taylor, Tiffany and Trey Boswell and Cutler Crider.
He is also survived by a brother, Ray Massengill of Knoxville, and by sisters; Mona Bass of Oliver Springs, Sue Noe and husband, Charles, of Oliver Springs, Peggy Justice and husband, Tommy, of Kingston, Thelma Hileman and husband, Joe of Oliver Springs and Brenda Hagan and husband, John of LaFayette, Georgia.
Additionally, he has several nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of special friends, including a close special friend, James Stanton.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 9, 2014, between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 pm, at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 2:00 pm, at Kelleytown Baptist Church. Burial, with full military honors will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
