Dorothy Bennett Werth, 70, died Oct. 8, 1998, in local hospital.
Mrs. Werth was a native of Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School. She attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William and Mary. She was the wife of Sonny Werth and the widow of Harold J. Bennett and the daughter of the late Edward and Augusta Marx.
Mrs. Werth owned and operated Abel Frame and Art Supplies in Norfolk for more than 40 years. Mrs. Werth helped her husband, Sonny, map out 35 Jewish cemeteries in 22 cities throughout Virginia and recorded them in the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond.
Mrs. Werth was a member and past president of the B'nai B'rith Women, life member of the Beth Shalom Home Auxiliary, Hebrew Ladies Charities and member and past president of the Jewish War Veteran Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Sonny Werth; two daughters, Myra Bennett Torres and her husband, Gustavo, of Miami, Fla., Sharon Bennett-Meaney and her husband, Matthew, of Seattle; a son, Neil Bennett and his wife, Pat, of Virginia Beach; four grandsons, Joshua and Nathan Bennett, Kenneth Meaney and David Torres; two sisters, Ruth Cass of Bethesda, Md., Sally Hyman of Virginia Beach; a brother-in-law, Morris ''Buddy'' Werth and his wife, Bertie-Jo, of Newport News; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Evans of Norfolk.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. by Rabbi Lawrence A. Forman and Cantor Jenifer Bern-Vogel. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kathy Hyman Rosenbach Tutorial Assistance Fund, c/o Tidewater Jewish Foundation, 5029 Corporate Woods Drive, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462, or the Ronald Hyman Home Health Care and Hospice, c/o Jewish Family Services, 7300 Newport Ave., Norfolk 23505.
