Jean Rita Marx Arnold, died peacefully in her sleep on April 3, 2009, at Harbor Chase Assisted Living Residence in Coral Springs, FL. Born December 6, 1920 in Sprague, Washington, she was the daughter of Herbert and Bess (Potts) Marx, and younger sister of Roberta Marx. As a child, Jean and her family moved to Louisville, KY, her father's hometown, and lived in Crescent Hill and St. Mathews through her graduation from Atherton High School and marriage to George Young Arnold. She moved with her husband and two young sons in 1948 to Jeffersonville, IN, where she raised her children and resided for more than fifty years. Over the years, she worked as a bookkeeper for several firms in southern Indiana and Louisville. Jean was a founding member of the Jeffersonville Pilot's International. She enjoyed extensive traveling, gardening, playing bridge and poker, and sewing, with a keen appreciation of the latest ladies fashions. Her greatest source of pride was her family. She moved in 2005 to Coral Springs, FL, where she enjoyed not only the warmth of the southern climate and frequent visits from her sons and their families, but also, and especially, the closeness of her grandaughter, Sarah Shanley, and her great-grandchildren who lived there and gave "G-Mo" great care.

Predeceased by her husband in 1993, she is survived by her two sons and their wives, David and Platt of East Lyme, CT and Bruce and Gail of Great Falls, ; her cousin, Donald Doerschlag of Kalispell, MT; three grandchildren, Sarah Shanley of Coral Springs, FL, Margaret Roberts of San Antonio, TX, and Jeffrey Arnold of Boston, MA; and her five great grandchildren, Liam, Garrett, and Fiona Shanley and Augustus and Phineas Roberts.

A family celebration in gratitude and remembrance of her life will be planned for sometime in the summer. It is requested that any memorial remembrances of her be made to the charity or cause of the donor's choice.
