John A. (Jonas) Aronson was born October 8, 1877 in Sweden to John and Johanna Maria Kristine Aronson. He came to this country in 1881, with his father, John Aronson, Sr. He was four years old at the time. He stayed with a neighborning family until his mother and two sisters and a brother came here from Sweden to make their home. He attended the Zach Holmes School. He worked for the Homestake near Nemo, South Dakota, a lumbering camp.
The girl he married, Emma Martinson, came from Sweden also. She was born on July 28, 1883 and came to the United States in 1902. She and John were married July 2, 1904. They made their home in Nemo, South Dakota for a number of years while he was employed by the Homestake. They moved east of Black Hawk near the elder John Aronson's home. In fact their homes were adjoining. He purchased the small farm in 1908 and lived there the rest of his life. He worked in various places in the hills, however. He, also, as his father, served on the school board as clerk of the board. He also served on the church board.
Mr. and Mrs. Aronson had eight children. All of these children attended the Zach Holmes School. The children are: Mable (Mrs. Eugene Evans) of Chula Vista, California; Arthur, Chicago, Illinois; Milton, nort of Black Hawk, South Dakota; Agnes (Mrs. Harry Garritt) of Oakland, California; Rudolph, St. Petersburg, Florida; Bernice (Mrs. Chester Jones) of San Francisco, California; and Frances (Mrs. Vern Lundin) of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Mr. and Mrs. Aronson were killed in a car and train accident August 26, 1940. They are buried in the Black Hawk Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Marvel Alverson live on their home place now.
