Josephine Marie Gerbo, 90, passed away peacefully last Saturday surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in St. Louis, MO and moved with her mother, Grace Martino, and her siblings to California as a young child in the depression era. Josephine graduated from Mt. View High School in 1938. She married the late Peter Gerbo in 1939, and they lived in Menlo Park, CA before relocating to Mountain View in 1973.
Josephine ("Jo") was a hostess at Sunset Magazine in Menlo Park for over 30 years until she retired. After retiring, she joined the El Camino Hospital Auxiliary and spent over 24 years donating her time at the hospital.
Josephine was an active member in the Italian Catholic Federation, the Sons of Italy and the Italian Social Club of Menlo Park. She was a devout Catholic and worshipped at the Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park and Saint Joseph's Church in Mt. View. She loved cooking and tending to her vegetable garden; and truly enjoyed dancing with her husband and their friends.
Josephine is survived by her two children: [redacted for privacy; 2 daughters]. She also is survived by three grandchildren [redacted]; and six great-grandchildren [redacted].
A viewing will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (4/28) at the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 W. El Camino in Mtn. View. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday (4/29) at the Church of the Nativity, 210 Oak Grove Ave., Menlo Park. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Josephine's name to the American Heart Association.
