Esther Johnson, 93, departed this life to be with the Lord on February 26, 2012.

Born in Masca, Honduras to Albino and Isabella Martinez. At five she moved with Alfonsa Noguera in Livingston, Guatemala.

Esther met and married Henry Billy Johnson on February 2, 1943. Moving to the USA, she bore eight children and was blessed to have been provided for by her loving husband, who affectionately called her "Chica".

She was a devoted Christian, loving, compassionate, humorous, and family oriented. She loved to dance and opened her door to feed many. Esther was cofounder of the Garifuna Club, and a community activist who helped make positive changes in Wilmington, and an avid bowler.

To cherish her memory are her children, Billy Johnson, Ruth Davis, Gloria Dillard, John and Barbara Johnson, Henry and Mary Johnson, Cynthia Lewis, Jessica and Robert Murray. Twenty grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and a host of family, friends.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at Long Beach Colonial Mortuary, 638 Atlantic Boulevard, Long Beach. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2012 at Harbor Christian Church, 1551 Wilmington Boulevard, Wilmington.
Burial at Green Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
