Obit:
Maria Graciana "Grace" Martinez Duran joined her beloved husband, Jose Arcenio "Joe ", her parents, Esquipula and Pablo Martinez and her dear mother-in-law, "Grandma Cate" (Catarina Duran) on June 24, 2012 at the age of 84. After years of living with diminished vision from Macular Degeneration, Grace lost her sight on May 9th of this year. The loss of vision was devastating for her as she had to give up the household chores that kept her going with purpose. Her work ethic was a strong value that lasted throughout her life. One of Grace's first jobs that she remembered fondly was working for the Postal Service in her hometown of Pecos, riding her bike to and from work each day. Later, Grace moved to Santa Fe and worked for TG&Y for many years. It was there that she met the love of her life, Joe Duran and they married in 1963. Tragically Joe died unexpectedly only twenty years later, leaving her with three young boys to raise. Arcy (LaPriel), Mark (Yolanda ) and Chris (Kim) were devoted to their mother as she was to them. Grace also helped to provide a second home for her two loving granddaughters, Miranda and Josephine Duran while their parents worked. Her door was always open to her family and friends. Grace loved her family dearly having great affection for her many nieces and nephews. Grace is survived by her siblings, Antonia Valencia (Agapitos), Juanito Martinez (Cecilia), Ted Martinez (Ursula) and Estella Guerra (Jim). Grace is also survived by her grandson, Charles Gomez, her very close sisters-in-law, Wally Martinez and Mary Duran as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Mary Ellen Duran, Stephie and Alex Salazar, Evelyn and Ray Rivera, Ida Chavez, Victor Duran and Solomon Gonzales. Grace is predeceased by siblings, Jose, Ross and Pablo (Rufina) Martinez. Grace was a lifelong Catholic, faithfully attending mass every Sunday until her illness would no longer allow. Grace was a member of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church for most of her adult life. Her family is very grateful for the support of Father Nathan and Deacon Jerry during this time. The family also wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the team of caring professionals from Amber Care Hospice for their kind and loving assistance in Grace's transition into the next life. A rosary will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. with a public viewing from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Funeral Home at 1399 Luisa Street. Mass will be at 9:00 a.m. on June 29, 22012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 1301 Osage Ave. A reception will be held immediately after at the church hall of St. Anne Parish at 511 Alicia.
