With great sorrow and pride, we announce the passing of our wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, Jerean Martin Archer. She leaves this life to join her father and mother, Thomas Jefferson and Orda Gillis Martin, who preceded her in death.
The Lord called her home on Friday, January 18, 2007 as her family held her hands in a circle of prayer. We take pride in knowing that she now rests peacefully as the angel she always was.
Jerean was born on July 10, 1930 in Timbo, Arkansas, where she spent her childhood. As a young girl, she helped her parents run a general store in Last Chance, Oklahoma, which was supplied with fresh produce from the Gillis farms. From an early age, she suffered and endured many illnesses. Though doctors predicted she'd be wheelchair-bound by age 25, her strong will and determination proved them all wrong. She used this strength to provide a rich legacy of loving care for future generations.
She married her partner in life, Don, on August 21, 1955. As a military wife, she had the opportunity to travel and experience many different cultures. They moved to Hatch, New Mexico, in 1965 where they raised their sons. She went to work for El Paso Electric Company where she retired in April of 1989, after 26 years of service.
She lived her life in service to the Lord and her faith. Jerean served in every position open to her at the First Baptist Church in Hatch. She also served on the Northside Baptist Church staff in San Antonio as youth director.
To know her, you loved her; a woman of strength and kindness whom we will hold in our hearts and memories all the days of our lives.
She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Donald; sons Scott Alan (Liz) Archer and Chris Alan (Carolyn) Archer; sister Joan (Bud) Peterson; grandchildren Brent Alan, Cody-Blue Alan, Tj Alan Archer, Amy Salopek, and Robert Reynolds who were the twinkle in her eye; brother-in-law Robert Byron (Lynda) Archer; sister-in-law Kay (Clyde) Cain, and several nieces and nephews whom she adored.
We welcome all who knew and loved her as we did to join us in a memorial service to be held on Monday, January 21, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Hatch, New Mexico. A private family burial will follow at a later date.
