Died: - Johanna, wife of Andrew Martin, at her home in this city last Thursday evening May 8, 1890. She was buried the next afternoon, the funeral being under the auspices of the Knights of Honor, of which lodge Mr. Martin is a member.
Miss Johnanna Kogal was born in Germany April 3, 1864. At the age of 18 she came to this country, and March 16, 1884, married Andrew Martin at Newton, Kansas, at which place they lived a few weeks and then moved to Augusta, where they have lived ever since. For six years Mrs. Martin has been troubled with a tumor and several weeks ago went to Wichita for treatment but received little relief. She returned to this city and went through the terrible ordeal of having an operation performed and the tumor removed, which proved too much for her.
Mrs. Martin was a member of the Catholic church for several years, but united with the Methodists in this city about a year ago, and lived a Christian life and died happy. Just before her death she seemed to realize that she was dying and said: "Put on my black dress I am dying. I am so happy." She then began to sing "Asleep in Jesus," but the death angel did not wait for her to finish the first verse, but took her in his arms and carried her over the river we all must cross.
Mr. Martin, the bereaved husband has the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends.
