Born on a farm. Attended Normal School in Iowa and taught for several years in a one room school house in rural Iowa outside of Fremont, then in a school in Fremont. Was the youngest of 10 and knew her uncles who had fought in the Civil War and knew her grandmother who was the daughter-in-law of a Revolutionary War Veteran. Moved to Chicago after her marriage and had her first child at age 42. Was an active member of Irving Park Christian Church in Chicago almost until her death at age 94. Lived in an era where she drove a horse and buggy to school and was still alive to marvel at the 1969 landing on the moon.
