Louise Graves Martin Cutler, 94, a lifelong resident of Marblehead, died November 4, 2005.
Born in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Knott V. and Celia Titus Martin and wife of the late Harold H. Cutler.
Mrs. Cutler worked as one of the first telephone operators in Marblehead, retiring after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Ocean Park Civic League Ladies Auxiliary, the last living member of the Old Timers Society, an honorary lifetime member of OKOS, and the 2003 recipient of the Marblehead Forever Award.
Mrs. Cutler kept diaries and scrapbooks throughout her life. She was interviewed by school students, with whom she shared memories of Marblehead, as well as many authors seeking information about the history of Marblehead. She co-authored two books with the OTS, titled "From Hollyhocks to Hot Top" and "From Hollyhocks to Hot Top Too". She was very active and involved in the raising of her nine grandchildren. Although Mrs. Cutler was not a graduate of the Class of 1930, she always maintained an active role in the planning of class reunions. On her 94th birthday, she was finally presented with her high school diploma.
Mrs. Cutler was a lifelong member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and its Dorcas Society in Marblehead.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Hooper and Joan Goodwin Cutler of Marblehead; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also the mother of the late Constance; grandmother of the late John Henry; and sister of the late Knott V. Martin, Joel Martin, Ruth Putnum, Edith Ball, Emma Martin, Thelma Blunin, Doris Gatchell and Elizabeth Ball.
A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Cutler's life will be held Saturday, November 12, at 2 p.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Church, 28 Mugford St., Marblehead. Interment will be held privately in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Arrangements are under the direction of the Eustis-Cornell Funeral Home of Marblehead.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Cutler's memory to the charity of one's choice.
