Bessie Herrill Martin, daughter of Edwin Herrill and Ruth Gitchel Herrill was born on March 28, 1916 in Coffey County, Kansas. She passed from this life on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Rhonda's Guest Home in Osceola, Iowa at 98 years of age.

Bessie graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, Iowa in 1934. She married Harold Emmet Martin on June 3, 1938. He passed away July 19, 1985.

Bessie was a housewife and Mother, she helped in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the P.T.A.. She was also involved in U.M.W. with Grace United Methodist and was a 50 year plus, member of Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington, Iowa. Bessie was a nurse’s aide in Mercy Hospital in Burlington and worked in school foods for over 25 years, becoming a school foods manager in West Burlington, Iowa. She finally retiring to Osceola, Iowa in 1992, where she became active in U.M.W. of the Osceola United Methodist Church, Osceola, Iowa.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold and her brother, Merle Herrill.

Bessie is survived by two sons, Dwight Martin of Sperry, Iowa and Keith Martin of Eldridge, Iowa; two daughters, Donna Sampson of Spokane, Washington and Eileen Boldon of Osceola, Iowa; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
