Memorial services for Lipscomb Vernon "Lip" Martin of Houston, Texas, are 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, at the chapel at Copiah-Lincoln Community College with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
There will be a family visitation at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Moak in Brookhaven following the memorial services.
Mr. Martin, 83, died March 7, 1999, in Houston, Texas. He was born in Norfield on Oct. 7, 1915, to George Vernon Martin and Maggie Moak Martin. Much of his childhood was spent in Picayune. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He was a graduate of the University of Wyoming with a bachelor's degree in geology.
He was a petroleum geologist and made many important discoveries and innovations while working for Gulf Oil and later as a consultant. He was a glider pilot in WWII and received an air medal for missions flown in Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Rhine.
Survivors are his wife, Amy Martin of Houston, Texas; his sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Deborah and Dan and Susan; his grandsons, Jonathan and Stephen; his brother Obier; and many other family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Southeastern Regional Office, 2400 Augusta Dr., Suite 420, Houston, Texas 77057, or a charity of choice.
