Burney K. 'Wimpy' Martin, 61, of Maddox Road, a landscaper, died of a brain hemorrhage Thursday at Methodist Medical Center. Services are 2 p.m. Sat. at Van Winkle Baptist Church with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park. Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sat. Mr. Martin was a Pelahatchie native and lived in Jackson most of his life. He was a graduate of Forest Hill High School and Hinds Community College, where he was All-American in football. He attended Mississippi College, where he played football. After college, Martin was a fireman for the city of Jackson and was owner and operator of Phillips 66 on U. S. 80 for several years. He also was a patrolman for Hinds County for 13 years. Martin was a 32nd-degree Mason at Forest Hill Lodge and was a Wahabi Temple Shriner. He was a member of Van Winkle Baptist Church. Survivors include; wife, Betty; daughters, Rhonda Martin Comfort of Durham, N. C., Kaye Lynn Martin Overman of Jackson and Traci Martin Whittington of Clinton; brothers, Hardy 'Bud' Martin of Atlanta, George A.'Jiggs' Martin of Jackson, Thomas Q. Martin of Jackson, Jimmy M. Martin of Raymond and Kenneth Martin of Jackson; sisters, Alleen Chamblee of Raymond and Dorothy Jean Evans of Douglasville, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
