Elva Miley Martin was born in Smith County on November 8, 1911, the daughter of the late Asa & Levie Miley. She was reared on a farm in Eatonville with her nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Miley graduated from the Forrest County Public Schools and continued her education at the University of Southern Mississippi. She received her Nursing degree from the Gilfoy School of Nursing. Mrs. Martin served as a Registered Nurse at the Baptist Hospital until the 1960's.
Mrs. Martin dedicated her life to her family, serving as a caregiver to her brothers and sisters and lovingly raising her three sons. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Griffin Sunday school class.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Newton Hall Martin, Sr. and son, William Miley Martin, Sr.
She will be remembered most by her family as a beloved mother, a cherished and devoted grandmother and a loving sister.
Survivors include: son, James Leland Martin and his wife, Kay of Madison; son, Newton Hall Martin, Jr. and his wife, Yvonne of Santa Rosa, Calif.; sister, Pearl Miley Flynt of Hattiesburg; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
