Patricia (Marshall) Batton, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood and a former resident of Indianapolis.
Patricia was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Edinburgh to Fredrick and Hester (Porter) Marshall.
She was a graduate of Franklin College, Jordan College of Music and Indiana University. She received scholarships, honors and numerous awards while pursuing her bachelor's and master's degrees in piano performance. She was a member of Tri-Delta music society while at IU. She made numerous music recordings while she was a personal student of the internationally famous Ozan Marsh, music director at IU.
Patricia held teaching licenses in Indiana, New Jersey and New York. She retired in 1981.
She was an active member of Oratorio Society and the alumni societies of Franklin College and Indiana University. She loved music and playing the piano.
Survivors include her son, James Marshall Batton of Indianapolis; a brother, William J. Marshall of Glenview, Ill.; two granddaughters, Joanna Carol (Rick) Bush of Carthage and Heidi Ann (Aaron) Batton-Pope of Indianapolis; and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Alexander Bush.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; and her aunt and mentor, Mary Ann Hunter, musicologist and opera singer.
Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery.
