Fred Mason Marsh was the third child of Edmund Mason Marsh and Nancy Ann (Annie) Clow Marsh, and was born in Denver, Colorado on Feb. 5, 1883. The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1890 when he was 7 years old. In 1904 he married Gussie Clifford Thomason. They had one son, Wilfred Dewitt Marsh. Mrs. Gussie Marsh passed away in 1909. On July 1, 1911, Mr. Marsh married Elizabeth V.E. Smith. They had four children: Lorna Doone Marsh (Bone), Willard E. Marsh, Elsie Elizabeth Marsh (Garren), and Millard Mason Marsh. Mrs. Elizabeth Marsh passed away in 1964.
Mr. Marsh was a skilled carpenter and brick layer. He worked for the W.H. Wynne family for many years, building and maintaining their properties. He was highly energetic and remained agile and active well into his 90's. He was an active member of Martha Brown Methodist Church in East Atlanta. He passed away Jan. 25, 1985, at the age of 101, and was laid to rest beside his wife in Westview Cemetery of Atlanta, GA.
