Robert J. Marley, 88, of Lancaster died Saturday at Manor Care in Lancaster. He was the husband of Sylvia Kopp Marley with whom he was married 54 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Clarence "Tim" and Naomi Heckel Marley. He retired in 1983 after more than 35 years at Armstrong World Industries where he worked as an electrical draftsman. He was a 1942 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School.
Faith was a guiding force in Bob's life. He was a devoted and active member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Lancaster, and later at Concordia Lutheran Church. An avid outdoorsman he loved mountains, and enjoyed hiking and bird watching. His other interests included photography and researching alternative medicines. At home, he will be remembered as a true handyman having the ability to fix and repair anything.
In addition to his wife are his daughters, Lari Jo, wife of John D. Walker, Lancaster; Roberta J. Marley-Merchant, Lancaster; grandchildren, Wood R. Walker and Kathryn E. Merchant; niece, Teri Moore and nephew Kenneth Miller. A sister "Betty" Shireman preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at Saint James, Lutheran Church, Tenth and Manor Sts. Columbia PA on Thursday, December 13 at 7 PM. Bob's nephew, Pastor Mark Kopp will officiate. A reception for family and friends will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to Water Street Rescue Mission in Bob's memory.
