Jefferson City Post-Tribune, May 1, 1970:

Joseph J. Markway, 74, of 1306 W. Main Street died today. Mr. Markway was born April 30, 1896, the son of Fred and Catherine Schnieders Markway. On Sept. 5, 1921 he was married to the former Miss Bernadine Bruegging who died Jan 20, 1957.

Survivors include: one son, J. Paul Markway, 308 Boonville Rd; two daughters, Mrs. Bob Ferguson, St. Martins, Miss Frances Markway, 1306 W. Main St.; one brother, Ben Markway, 920 Winston Dr.; three sisters, Mrs. Leo DeBroeck, Wardsville; Mrs Jake Kolb, 1422 Green Berry Rd.; Mrs. Roy Stockman, Wardsville; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Markway was one of the first pioneer automechanics in Jefferson City and was a veteran of World War 1. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society of that parish, the Ushers Guild, Legion of Mary and Eagle Barracks, Veterans World War 1.

Funeral services will be from St. Peters Catholic Church, Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. A. Vogelweid officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at the Dulle Funeral Home, Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
