Marian Markham Alford

Marian Markham Alford, 83, died peacefully on July 14, 2006, in Kerrville. She is now at peace with the Lord. She had been a Kerrville resident off and on for many years, beginning in 1954 when she and her husband moved here to raise their four children.

Marian was born August 6, 1922, in Lubbock, Texas. She attended Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and married Robert A. Alford at Ft. Sill, OK on July 3, 1943. After their children were raised, Marian resumed her studies, earning a Masters degree from the University of St. Thomas in Houston in religious education, and continued her studies at SMU, St. George College in Jerusalem, St. Andrews University in Scotland, 4 summers at Oxford University in England, and other universities. She taught scripture at Regis University in Colorado Springs and served for many years as an adult education and spiritual direction counselor.

Marian is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert A. Alford, who cared for her devotedly during her disability of several years; and four children, Additionally she is survived by 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
