Margaret Ann Marion Baker
Mrs. Margaret Ann Marion Baker, 34 Summit Drive, Lindale, passed away at her residence on Wednesday morning, April 18, 2012.
Mrs. Baker was born January 16, 1931, in Floyd County, GA to Harry Andrew Marion and Ann Garner Marion. She was a graduate of Rome Girls' High School. She was married to Robert W. (Bob) Baker on February 11, 1951. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Marion Hines.
Mrs. Baker was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church and served as President of the United Methodist Women and in several other church offices.
Mrs. Baker retired as Executive Secretary to the Superintendent of the Floyd County Board of Education in June, 1996. Prior to that, she was secretary to the Director of Nursing at Georgia Highlands College.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Baker is survived by a son, Phil Baker, and his wife, Patty, Rome; 3 grandsons, Brennan Baker, Washington, DC, Dylan Baker, Atlanta, and Jesse Baker, Rome; a brother, Joe Marion, and his wife, Linda, Cedartown; a sister, Dixie Marion, Cedartown; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Carver, Lindale; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services for Mrs. Baker will be held at Second Avenue United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM with her Pastor, the Rev. Tom McElroy officiating. A private interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Friday, April 20, from 6 PM until 8 PM. At other times, the family will be at their respective residences.
Active pallbearers will include her son, Phil Baker, her grandsons, Brennan, Dylan, and Jesse Baker, and her nephews, Steve Carver and Jim Saliba. Honorary pallbearers will include Cary Brooks, Johnny Brooks, and Hubert Stepp and are requested to assemble at the Second Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday at 10:30am.
The family respectfully requests no food or flowers. Memorials may be made to the Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 801 E. Second Avenue, Rome, GA 30161.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home has charge of the funeral arrangements.
