Florence was born in Jersey City, NJ as the twin daughter of Catherine and Frederick Gehlbach. Her twin sister, Muriel, died at about 2 years of age. Florence married Louis Albert Maresca on June 20, 1948 in NJ. Together they had one son, Michael Douglas Maresca who was born in 1960 after many years of trying and lost pregnancies. Michael was born with a heart defect and Florence devoted her life to taking care of him until he was finally cured completely through surgery at age 13. The family moved to Gainesville, FL in 1969. Florence always remained devoted to her husband and son and was delighted when she became a grandmother in 1993 and again in 1995.
Florence developed a condition known as Binschwanger's Disease which is similar to Alzheimer's. This disease slowly but constantly kills off little tiny sections of the brain until there are large dead areas. She suffered from this disease for almost 8 years before God finally called her home to be with her loving husband, Al, who died in 2000. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and Nanny. We are happy that you are now whole again and Home with all your loved ones. We love you, Mom.
