Jean Clare Burrows, 85, passed away August 20, 2011. She was born August 7, 1926, in Okeene OK to William N. and Clara M. (Simon) Marcoux. She graduated from Okeene High School and went on to receive a Commerce degree from Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University. She returned to school and graduated with a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Oklahoma. In 1972, she founded the Deaconess Hospital Medical Library. She retired from the library after 33 years. She was a longtime member of the Medical Library Association. Additionally, Jean helped found the GOAL Library consortium, which is comprised of medical libraries in the Greater Oklahoma City area, and the group established a scholarship in her name. After her retirement in 2006, the library was dedicated the Jean Burrows Medical Library and Resource Center. In addition to her love of the library, her interests included traveling, art, reading, speaking French, and continuing her education.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert G. Burrows, sister Maureen K. Horstkoetter, and brother William H. Marcoux.
Survivors include her brother Joseph L. Marcoux of Tulsa OK; daughter Cathy J. French and husband Scott of Broomfield CO; son Chris Burrows and wife Sherry of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Kari L. Stevenson and husband Caleb, Kate E. Avery and husband Scott, Brice J. Burrows, and Jonathan R. French; and great-grandson Nathaniel L. Stevenson.
