Her parents, Samuel & Anne Tichenor Maratta(y), relocated to New Mexico from Kentucky in an effort to regain his health. They later returned to Kentucky when the west coast didn't suit their daughters.
Mary Frances met her future husband, J. Wathen "Mike" Fowler, while delivering milk to his tailor shop. They married in Chattanooga while 'chaperoning' another couple. They had two daughters, Elizabeth Linda Gore, who died in infancy and Frances Dianna.
Mary Frances worked at the University of Louisville School of Restorative Dentistry from November 1949 until her retirement and would sell real estate on the side.
She was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her daughter and later her granddaughter. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and doted on her dog, Brunita.
