Death of G. W. Mapes.

On Thursday morning, May 18, 1893, at nine o’clock a. m., the soul of G. W. Mapes took its departure for that home "beyond the tide," and on Friday afternoon, at four o’clock, a large number of friends assembled at the Methodist church to listen to an eloquent and impressive sermon by Rev. J. P. Witt, after which they followed the remains to their final resting place in the city cemetery.

Deceased, was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Feb. 22, 1827.
His early life was spent in that state, where he was married to Miss Martha Zuck. From this union there was three children born—Mrs. Mollie Bliss, of this city; Mrs. Owen, of Kansas City, Mo. and Martha G. Etta, who died some years ago.

He was married a second time to Mary J. Owen, May 8, 1856. To this union there was five children born—three girls and two boys. One boy and one girl are still living.

He moved to Michigan, thence to Kansas City and from there to Nevada, Mo., where he lived until recently when the loving kindness of his daughter, Mrs. Bliss, prompted her to bring him here, in the hope that the change and the care that she could bestow upon him would improve his condition. But it was not to be. The most skillful medical attention; the most tender care was of no avail and he passed away, as above stated, at peace with the world and his God, at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 26 days.

The family have the earnest sympathy of the community and especially do they mourn with Mrs. Bliss, who was a favorite child and who loved the kind, indulgent, affectionate father as he loved her and who left nothing undone to minister to his comfort and to stay the icy hand of death as it reached out to chill the lifeblood, which had ever-flowed in such warm, loving, kindness toward his family and friends. The Father willed it otherwise and with the consciousness of having done all that mortals could do, let the bereaved one humbly submit to His will and look to Him for the only balm that can heal the wound He Himself hath made.
